Ads come to Google Maps

I guess I should have been expecting this all along, but Google Maps is now festooned with advertising. I've mostly seen hotel ads (but haven't clicked on them to see where they go). I understand that this is how they make money, but it sure was nice getting something for nothing.

Also, this is one more reason to reject widescreen computer monitors. That vertical direction is just too cramped! Give me the standard 4:3 anytime.
